About S.H.E. Urban Farms

About S.H.E. Urban Farms

S.H.E. Urban Farms is a woman-owned urban farm based in East Contra Costa County, California. We hand cut and hand pack each harvest to insure quality at every step of the journey while striving towards Complete Resource Utilization. Whether it's one of our custom-blended mixes or one of our hand-crafted, freeze-dried powders, our goal has always been a simple one: to specialize in growing the freshest, nutrient-rich microgreens using eco-conscious practices that nourish both people and the planet.

Our Mission

At S.H.E. Urban Farms, we believe that food is medicine and farming is a powerful form of healing. Rooted in organic principles, our farm is committed to low-waste, sustainable practices that not only nurture the earth but help us live the mantra: Waste Not, Want Not. This idiom emphasizes fully-sustainable practices that save water, eliminate toxic run-off, and utilize 100% of our product. Combined with programs like our "Surprise Bags", we reduce food waste and deliver fresh, real food to our community.

ONLY THE BEST

What We Grow

We grow a rotating selection of premium microgreens, including broccoli, mustard, radish, pea shoots, sunflower, and custom blends. Grown by hand, harvested with care, and delivered fresh—our greens are perfect for everything from salads and sandwiches to smoothies and garnishes.

Every tray is grown with zero pesticides, zero shortcuts, and zero compromises.

Additionally, we produce a line of freeze-dried microgreen powders. One supports allergy relief, another provides hormone support for women, and there's the wellness blend. These can contain up to 40 times more nutrients than their full-grown counterparts. They are 10 times more concentrated after removing non-nutrient water weight. Our product is completely grown, cut, freeze-dried and powdered by S.H.E. Urban Farms. No middleman. No fillers. No hype!

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is better - Microgreen Powder or Fresh Microgreens?

That's a great question! While they both have strengths, the way to consider the question is as follows. Our fresh microgreens are individual varieties that have unique benefits and diverse flavor signatures. Our microgreen powders are concentrated combinations of multiple varieties that can contain up to forty (40) times as many nutrients as their full grown, fresh counterparts. Each microgreen powder serving gives you a full spectrum of micro-nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants, macro-minerals and micro-minerals.

What are some of the health benefits of Microgreens?

1. Help Manage Type 2 Diabetes (Broccoli)

People with diabetes, their cells don’t remove sugar (glucose) from their blood like they’re supposed to. Research shows that microgreens improve insulin resistance so sugar leaves the blood to enter theses cells and may improve how well they take in sugar by 25% to 44%.

2. Cognition (Broccoli / Radish)

Polyphenols, plant-based substances with antioxidant properties, may improve cognition and even prevent or delay the beginning of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease.

3. Lowered Risk of Heart Disease/Managing Blood Pressure (Broccoli / Cabbage / Beets)

Polyphenols are also linked to a lower risk of heart disease. Studies show that they can help reduce body weight, triglycerides and LDL (bad) cholesterol — all risk factors for heart disease.

4. Cancer Prevention (Broccoli)

Brassicaceae microgreens contain Sulforaphane which have shown that they may help prevent, block or possibly reverse cancer growth and even aid in preventing colon cancer.

5. Protect Vision (Broccoli / Cilantro)

Lutein is a powerful antioxidant shown to be beneficial for eye health in older adults and may improve or even prevent age-related macular disease.

6. Reduced Risk of Anemia (Arugula /Broccoli / Cabbage)

Iron deficiency is common and the leading cause of anemia worldwide. Many microgreens are rich in iron.

7. Allergy Relief (Pea shoots / Radish)

DAO (Diamine Oxidase)is an enzyme found in Pea microgreens that helps break down histamine in your body easing allergy symptoms such as nasal congestion, itchy eyes, headaches, and sneezing. Combined with Radish (which is high in vitamin C, a known histamine blocker) and you have a power-house mix that helps knock out common allergies.

8. Hormone Support (Fenugreek / Alfalfa / Clover / Basil / Radish / Broccoli))

Most women face uncomfortable symptoms during menopause due to oestrogen reduction. In that case, Alfalfa and most noteably Fenugreek, both phytoestrogens, have compounds which function like oestrogen to minimize hot flashes and night sweats during menopause. They may also have a role in promoting bone health and reducing the risk of certain cancers, especially breast cancer.

9. Inflammation / Tissue Repair (Bok Choi / Cilantro / Sunflower / Peas)

Contain polyphenols that aid in tissue repair and help prevent inflammation by reducing damage from heavy metals & oxidative stress. They have also been shown to boost immunity and help support digestion by nourishing the probiotic organisms in your gut.
